Ethos

Build only what is worth building. Build it well.

An operator's instinct. An investor's discipline. A long memory for what compounds.

The work is not defined by sector. It is defined by a way of thinking — about quality, about time, and about what deserves attention.

Stella Cole

Profile

A legal mind. An operator's range.

Stella Cole is a legal professional with a diverse portfolio of business interests across multiple sectors — from innovation and hospitality to private advisory. The legal training is the foundation: a precise way of reading risk, structuring relationships, and protecting what is built.

That foundation is paired with the instincts of an operator. The work moves between boardrooms and build-rooms — from drafting the terms of a venture to shaping the team that will execute it. Sectors differ; the standard does not.

She is the founder of Star Group, the parent brand through which she advises founders, supports the development of early-stage ventures, and serves on advisory boards for startup companies across borders. Star Group exists to give ambitious operators the senior counsel and structural clarity that most early ventures cannot afford to hire — and cannot afford to be without.

Principles

What guides the work.

Six beliefs that recur across every venture, every decision, and every room.

01

Conviction over consensus

Build only what you would back yourself. The clearest signal is the willingness to be early and alone.

02

Craft is the proposition

Detail others overlook is where quality compounds — in products, places, and people alike.

03

The long view wins

Optimise for durable value over short-term noise. Time rewards what is real and punishes what is performed.

04

Operators, not commentators

Judgement is earned by doing the work. Advice without operating experience is opinion.

05

Discretion as design

Trust is built in private. The most important conversations happen in rooms, not feeds.

06

People are the venture

Capital follows talent and conviction. Choose partners you would build with for a decade.

The Way of Working

Slow is deliberate. Quiet is intentional.

The aim is not volume. The aim is consequence. A small number of ventures, chosen with care and led with attention, will out-perform a larger number pursued with neither.

The same rule applies to advisory: a focused mandate, executed with senior judgement, is worth more than a generic process at scale. This is why the work — across innovation, hospitality, and advisory — is anchored by people, not by paperwork.

In advisory, that ethos is carried through Stella's association with Star Group, where the same standards of discretion and craft apply to founders considering their next phase.

Tenets

What we say yes and no to.

Yes to

  • — Ventures with a clear reason to exist.
  • — Operators who sweat the details.
  • — Decisions made on a ten-year horizon.
  • — Honest, small rooms.
  • — Quality over quantity, always.

No to

  • — Hype masquerading as conviction.
  • — Shortcuts that compromise craft.
  • — Performance theatre over real work.
  • — Mandates without alignment.
  • — Anything that cannot be done with care.
